An Artist Talk and Reception-NEW LOCATION- WEST BUILDING 114
Artist Ishita Islam on Mycelial Map, a West Art Gallery Exhibit
Wednesday October 22nd 4-5pm
West Building classroom 114
The Mycelial Map presents a series of abstract landscapes that reflect on the quiet, powerful connections that bind us to the earth and to each other. Instead of depicting specific places, these works evoke emotional topographies—echoes of our shared relationship with the natural world. Each piece is a meditation on nature’s enduring presence in our lives and the part we play in reciprocity. Created with thoughtful imagination and regenerative use of materials, the artworks are composed of handmade papers, natural pigments, and once-forgotten elements—transformed through a tactile, intentional process. Their textured surfaces and earthy tones speak to a kind of creative alchemy, one that draws from what the land offers and what we choose to honor. The title, The Mycelial Map, alludes to the hidden networks of fungi beneath the forest floor—an allegory for the unseen yet vital threads of connection, memory, and interdependence that weave through both nature and human experience. Taken together, the exhibition offers a moment of reflection—a gentle reminder of the deep-rooted strength that connects all living things. It encourages a mindful stewardship of earthly elements—for the sake of those who will follow.
