Megan Keene, Gettysburg ES Alum ('21), has offered to join us over Zoom for an informal chat about job search woes and wins. Megan currently works as a "Communications Specialist" (but plays many roles) at Eastern Research Group. Originally though, she had a stressful job search process and is willing to provide some insight into how she handled it.

Potential Unintended Consequences of Upstream Dam Removal on an Estuarine Reserve
Zoe Bremner, Gabe Guzman, and Dan Soloway
"Our project is looking at the downstream effects of two upstream dam removals on SAVs in an estuarine ecosystem. Our community partner is CBNERRS and we have been working with them to complete pre-removal testing of the sediments and nutrients in the water behind the two dams to understand what the possible sedimentation and effects will be on the estuary and how that will affect the SAV health."
I’ll Be Dammed: Beaver Reintroduction in Michaux State Forest

"We are working with Michaux State Forest to inform a potential reintroduction of beavers in the forest. We have conducted fieldwork and a survey to see if it would be possible to bring beavers to the forest in the near future!"
Artificial Light at Night and its Ecological Impacts in Gettysburg National Military Park
Casey Deck and Maddie Krug
Maddie and Casey have been collaborating with DarkSky PA and the GNMP on a project to measure Artificial Light at Night within GNMP and to assess its ecological impact. Casey has been leading the fieldwork component of this work, while Maddie has been focusing on creating an ecological risk assessment for amphibians found within the park.
Sustainable Redevelopment: Assessing Environmental and Social Impacts of Brownfield Site Reuse Strategies

“Our project researches brownfield site redevelopment in Pennsylvania for community engagement and conservation purposes. We have found that remediation after industrial use of a site is possible and beneficial for local communities. Conservation efforts within these locations is possible with proper planning and strategic implementations.”

Painted Turtle Farm Volunteer Shifts
Looking for somewhere to volunteer for the last couple of weeks of the semester? The Painted Turtle Farm has weekly volunteer shift times as they prepare for spring and summer. The shift times are Mondays from 6 to 8, Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:30, Thursdays from 4 to 6, and Saturdays from 2 to 4.
