Career and Research Talk w/ Prof Tasha Gownaris

  • Date/Time: November  5, 12 - 1 PM
  • Location: Science Center 158
  • Description: Join us for an informal, student-centered talk by marine scientist and ES Professor Tasha Gownaris. Tasha will talk about her research journey (including some unexpected turns), about the experience of conducting intensive fieldwork, and about the current focus of her seabird research with students. Pizza will be provided!

ES Résumé Workshop

  • Date/Time: Thursday, November  13, 12 - 1 PM
  • Location: Science Center 161
  • Description: Think you're going to be applying to jobs or internships soon? Faculty will HELP you improve your résumé and focus it for ES positions, but it's recommended to have a draft to start from. If you don’t have a draft résumé, you can also attend and get some general tips. Feel free to bring lunch as well!

Kolbe Research Fellowship Info Session: Tuesday, Nov 4, 2025, 4 PM – 5 PM

  • Information session for students considering an application to the Summer 2026 Kolbe Research Fellowship
  • Applications, prepared in collaboration with faculty mentors, are due by January 30, 2026, at noon.
  • Come to Musselman Library 18 to learn more about this funded undergraduate research opportunity and how to put together a competitive application. Faculty interested in serving as mentors are also encouraged to attend.

Painted Turtle Farm Smash N' Bash (Smashing Pumpkins)

  • Date: November 8, 2025
  • Smash: 2:00 - 4:00 PM
    • With the end of Halloween, PTF is holding their pumpkin smashing event!! It is a perfect time to let out any stress or frustration at the end of the semester. Have leftover pumpkins? Bring them over to PTF! There will be plenty of hammers, bats, and even a smashing wood stump ready for destruction. 
  • n' Bash: 4:00 - 6:00 PM
    • Enjoy live music by Listeners and Performers, a leaf printing exercise, a cozy GLC-hosted fire, and host-provided cider (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). There will also be FREE FOOD from The Mexican Food Truck, if you are one of the first 100 people there starting at 4:00. If you can not get there until later, do not worry, the truck will continue to offer discounted $10 meals until the end of the night!

GECO Sustainability Survey

  • Gettysburg Environmental Concerns Organization (GECO) is currently conducting a survey about sustainability on campus and are looking for more participants.
  • The questions generally focus on where the college is at sustainability-wise and how YOU think it can improve.

Native American Heritage Month Spotlight


The Indigenous Revolt: Recentering Stories Through Photography in Carlisle and Gettysburg - Dr. Amanda Cheromiah

  • Date/Time: Monday, November  3, 4 - 5 PM
  • Location: Mara Auditorium (Masters 110)
  • Description: Photography has long played a role in shaping narratives—both as propaganda to exploit Indigenous Peoples and Communities and as a means of resistance. We will first explore the impact of photography on Indigenous representation, focusing on the Carlisle Indian Industrial School and its connections to Gettysburg, PA. We will examine how images were used to erase, assimilate, and document while also discussing how Indigenous Communities have recentered photography as a means of storytelling and healing.

Visual Storytelling: Framing Narratives with Authenticity and Intention - Dr. Amanda Cheromiah

  • Date/Time: Tuesday, November  11, 4 - 5:30 PM
  • Location: CUB 260
  • Description: This student workshop will focus on storytelling technique and the power of using stories for advocacy. During the workshop, student participants will learn simple photography techniques to enhance their visual storytelling and cultivate skills to frame narratives with authenticity and intention. This session is open to all Gettysburg and Hood College students.
