Cross-Disciplinary Art in Science Competition

There will be a Cross-Disciplinary Art in Science Competition on Nov. 13th, I you are invited to submit an original piece of art! This event is open to students and faculty, and art relating to scientific research, classes, etc will be accepted! As we see how scientific creativity and beauty span multiple disciplines, we are excited to partner this year wuth XSIG, who will be sponsoring awards, as well as fun science-themed prizes for participants and winners such as stuffed microbes!

Whether you consider yourself a talented artist, or just like to dabble on the side, we encourage you to creatively explore the science you interact with. You do not need to have a nice camera to be able to take some cool photos!

If you would like to submit a piece, please follow the instructions on the website (click on the photo above).
The submission deadline will be November 11th by 11:59AM.

Interns are paid $16 per hour and this is meant to be part-time. Applications close November 11th. You can find more information here. If you have any email isabel_perez@casey.senate.gov

Fire Ecology Summer Research

There are multiple open internship opportunities conducting fire ecology research this Summer at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) on Long Island, NY.  These positions are being offered through the Department of Energy's (DOE) Student Undergraduate Learning Internship (SULI) program.  This position, which includes a monetary stipend and housing for non-local individuals, presents students with the opportunity to gain experience in skills such as plant identification and arthropod sampling.  Additionally, SULIs have the opportunity to conduct a self-directed independent research project, an undertaken that leads to the creation of a scientific poster and research paper.  In the past, some have even led to publication in peer reviewed journals.

Applications opened October 16th and close January 8th!

Further questions can be directed to Professor Andy Wilson at awilson@gettysburg.edu
