GETTMUN Rules and Policies

Delegate Code of Conduct

GETTMUN delegates are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and courtesy throughout the conference. This includes treating staff members and fellow delegates with respect and demonstrating maturity in one's speech, actions, and appearance throughout the conference. Delegates are also expected to adhere to any and all applicable policies from Gettysburg College as well as the state of Pennsylvania.

Dress Code

Delegates are expected to wear business professional throughout the conference. The dress code is Western Business attire. Failure to adhere to GETTMUN's dress code may result in disqualification of awards or being removed from committee. For references of appropriate clothing, please refer to the link below: https://sph.emory.edu/careers/documents/ProfessionalDressforSuccess.pdf

Committee Attendance

Committee attendance is mandatory for all delegates unless the delegation's advisor/head delegate has notified the Secretariat in advance. Committee attendance will be taken at the beginning of each session and failure to attend will result in the notification of the delegations advisor and possible disqualification from awards.

Sexual Harassment and Discrimination

GETTMUN will not tolerate discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, age, or disability. If any delegate or conference staff member believes they have encountered an instance of discrimination, they are advised to bring it to the attention of the GETTMUN Secretary General. Consistent harassment from individual delegates or larger delegations may result in disqualification from awards and a disinvitation from future GETTMUN conferences. Definitions for these acts are defined by Gettysburg College policies which are linked here: https://www.gettysburg.edu/offices/student-rights-responsibilities/student-handbook/policy-details?id=23480e21-2c9a-4b12-8a71-7b7800121587

Addressing Policy Violation

If a delegate is found to be in violation of any of the above conference policies, the GETTMUN Secretariat may be alerted of the offense, and reserves the right to take disciplinary action including: suspension from conference activities, expulsion from all remaining conference activities, and dis-invitation of the individual delegate or delegation from subsequent GETTMUN conferences. In some cases, the Secretariat will defer as necessary to the head delegate/advisor of the offending delegate or delegation for disciplinary action. In all cases where the Secretariat takes action, the head delegate/advisor will be alerted.

Awards Policy

Awards are given out based on contributions to each committee session, these awards are earned through the quality of speech, directives, and resolutions. GETMUN offers the following individual awards: Best Delegate, Outstanding Delegate, Distinguished Delegate, and Honorable Mention (the latter is dependent on committee size).

Delegation awards are determined using a points-based system, recognizing the best large and small delegations. These awards depend on the number of delegates per delegation. A point scale is utilized to determine the final award winners.

A Large Delegation is defined as a Delegation over 10 delegates. A Small Delegation is defined as any delegation including or smaller than 10 delegates.

Pre-Written Materials

Pre-written documents, including but not limited to draft resolutions, press releases, communiqués, and directives, are strictly prohibited at GETTMUN. Although research is necessary to craft a strong position, delegates should not author collective action documents before the conference, as this only disadvantages delegates who receive their positions close to the conference date. We believe these pre-written documents undermine the spirit of collaborative diplomacy and academic rigor that we work hard to maintain at our conference. All Chairs, Vice-Chairs, Crisis Directors, and staff members are aware of this policy and will report any suspected pre-written materials to the Directors General. Notes about one's character and general research are excluded in this ban.

Technology Use

The use of cellular phones, laptop computers, and other data-enabled devices is strictly prohibited during all GETTMUN committee sessions. All research and preparation for the conference should occur prior to the first GETTMUN committee session, and the use of technology during committee undermines the importance of this preparation. If a delegate is found to be using a prohibited device during any committee session, all GETTMUN staff members reserve the right to confiscate the device and return it to its owner at the end of committee session. Cell phones should not be seen in committee and the use of one will have it confiscated and returned only to the delegate's Advisor/Head Delegate.

Although technology use is prohibited within committee, outside of committee delegates and advisors will have access to the Gettysburg Network and wifi.

Fees and Refunds

We will offer full refunds until September 15th, after this time Delegation fees will be non-refundable. Delegate fees will be partially refundable until October 1st, where all fees will become non-refundable  Please note that if a delegation cannot attend GETTMUN due to inclement weather, we cannot provide a refund. Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you in October. Please also note that failure to make payment by the conference date will result in loss of conference spots. Continued non-payment will result in not being invited to future conferences and possible legal action.

Alcohol and Drug Use

Delegates are strictly forbidden from engaging in alcohol or drug use while on campus. Furthermore, delegates found possessing or using illicit drugs or alcohol, as defined by United States federal law, will be required to leave the conference immediately and may be held criminally liable.
