FAQs & Useful Information:

Do I need to be in the Guided Pathways to apply for Conference Funding?

Yes, and you must be an active Guided Pathways student to be awarded funding. Active Guided Pathways students are characterized as such by attending at least one meeting with their Co-Curricular Advisor each semester, and being up to date on their Reflection submissions.

If I am a Guided Pathways student, is it a requirement to apply for funding?

No! Conference Funding is an opportunity, not a requirement.

Can Conference Funding only be used for expenses related to attending a conference?

Yes, the Conference Fund is only for costs associated with attending conferences. If there are any Guided Pathways experiences (other than conferences) that you need funding to participate in, please see the Guided Pathways Fund page here.

Can you provide examples of what expenses may be covered by the Conference Fund?

  • Conference registration costs (for either virtual or in-person attendance)
  • Travel and transportation costs
  • Hotel and lodging costs
  • Food costs

Not sure if your expenses qualify? Please ask your Co-Curricular Advisor!

What are the deadlines to apply to the Conference Fund?

Conference Fund applications are due on the 15th of each month from September through April.

Should you submit your application after the 15th of the month, your application will be rolled over into the next month's deadline and application review.

No applications will be accepted after the April 15th deadline, until the following academic year.

How quickly will decisions be made after each monthly application due date?

Please allow at least two weeks for the funding committee to review applications and make decisions about funding.

If I am selected, how long will it take for me to receive the funding?

Once you have received a funding decision and completed your acceptance paperwork, it takes an additional 3 - 4 weeks to process payments.

How far in advance should I submit my Conference Fund application for the conference I want to attend?

To ensure that you receive your funding disbursement by the date in which you need it, it is recommended for students to submit their applications to the Conference Fund at least six weeks in advance.

Is there a minimum or maximum amount of funding available?

No, but as a portion of your funding application, you must submit a detailed budget proposal to outline your expenses.

How detailed should my application be?

Your application is an opportunity for the funding committee to get to know you, your interests, and your goals. The more detailed you are in answering the questions, the better the committee will be able to assess the conference you have chosen to attend as it relates to funding opportunities. Please ensure that you have answered all parts of each question within the application, including the budget proposal, to the best of your ability.

If selected, will I receive the exact amount of money I requested in my application?

Not necessarily, but the funding committee does their best to meet the needs of the recipients.

How many times can I apply to the Conference Fund?

You may apply for funding as many times as you would like. However, depending on the application pool, first-time applicants may be given preference.

I received funding and attended my conference - what happens next?

If you receive funding to attend a conference, you are required to submit a Reflection about your experience within 30 days of the end of the conference, as a condition of your use of the disbursed funds.

How do I access the Conference Fund application?

The Conference Fund application is accessible here. The application link is only open during each application submission period. The application link will also be sent to all Guided Pathways students via email from their Co-Curricular Advisor at the beginning of each application cycle.
